2.9 Charles Randolph of Glasgow; 2.10 R.Portencross Castle (1360 AD), West Kilbride, Ayrshire, (27may2012). Ancient Scotland.
Building apparently started circa 1360 AD, Portencross Castle stands on the southwest coast of Scotland, somewhere between Seamill and West Kilbride. The island of Cumbrae, with the town of Millport is a short distance across the sea in the Firth of Clyde.
The castle was featured on BBC TV's Restoration TV show, with Gryff Rhys Jones. Sadly it wasn't selected.
Fortunately, due to the hard work of others, the castle is now open to the public. Here is the link to a very informative and well laid out website which has all the photos and information you could wish for.

My video starts outside of the castle, then the inside through many of the halls and rooms, finally to the views of the Firth of Clyde from the roof.
Having known of the castle for many years, it was nice to finally get inside and on top of it. Well done to all involved ;-)

Here I take a look around one of England's finest Norman Abbeys' with a massive crossing tower & "probably the largest & finest Romanesque tower's in England".
The Abbey was founded in 1087 by the nobleman Robert FitzHamon. The building of the present abbey was began in 1102 and consecrated in 1121.The Abbey dominates the little picturesque town of Tewksbury in Gloucestershire and is the second largest parish church in the country and a former Benedictine monastery.
Between 1321 & 1335, the tower and nave vaults were rebuilt in the Decorated Style.
In 1539 the inhabitants of Tewksbury saved the abbey from destruction as a result of the Dissolution of the monasteries. Insisting that it was their parish church, which they had a right to keep, they bought it from King Henry VIII for £453, the value of the bells and lead roof which would have been salvaged and melted down, leaving the structure a roofless ruin.
