Late September Wisconsin Bow Hunt

It was September 22nd, the second weekend of the 2012 Wisconsin Bow Hunting season for whitetail deer and I was finally up in the tree stand. I had been waiting for this day since the last deer hunting season had closed. I was hunting in Marinette County, Wisconsin over a food plot that we had planted in the spring. We planted Lee and Tiffany Lakosky's special brand of Evolved Harvest Rack Radish T-Raptor Crush and the deer had torn it up in the summer. Even though there were only stubs left in the plot I was hoping that some nice whitetails would still be attracted to the area. I also had half a pumpkin and a Mighty Lick apple scented mineral lick placed in a small bait pile about twenty yards in front of me. Before it got light out I had a doe that came into the food plot and I tried my best to get some video of her. Shortly after, another doe snuck up right behind me and I didn't even notice her until she was right under my stand. She moseyed around the mineral lick and was gone almost as fast as she appeared. After about an hour another deer showed up and it was a buck! It was a small spike, but hopefully in the future, if it stays healthy by eating our food plots, it will be a mature shooter buck. The last two deer that came in were a doe and a fawn and, again, they snuck up on me and were eating in the radish food plot before I ever saw them. Five deer in a late September morning bow hunt was a great sign for things to come. Hopefully, with a lot of patience, a big shooter buck will come along and I'll be able to take a shot. Stay tuned!
